Mathy is a producer, writer and activist, dedicated to amplifying under-represented and marginalised voices through storytelling.

As a creative development producer, my passion lies in the intersection of film and disability. I am especially interested in spotlighting character-driven narratives of disability and illness, and championing stories told through the lenses of lived experience.

At present I am a Programme Adviser at Sheffield Doc/Fest, and a script reader for The Writers Lab. With extensive experience in the film industry and arts sector, I have worked with and consulted for organisations such as the Independent Cinema Office, Film Hub North, Unlimited, Slate/Eclipse, the National Paralympic Heritage Trust and more.

I am also a disability activist and advocate. I have been featured on nationally broadcast television and radio, in newspapers and on online platforms such as HuffPost, and have been invited to speak in Parliament with Muscular Dystrophy UK.

I have been recognised as a Trailblazer of the Future by Campaign Magazine, for my work in championing diversity in the creative industries.

Work With Me

I believe in the power of diversity in storytelling, and more significantly who we empower to tell those stories. I am always looking to work on impactful projects that move the needle, make positive change or have something unique to say. If that’s something that resonates, I’d love to hear from you.

I am available for freelance work, consultancy, project-based roles & speaking engagements. (Please take a moment to read my access statement before getting in touch about any work or collaborations.)

For more information, or to discuss other opportunities, please contact me here.

  • As a producer, I am always looking for narratives and ideas that move the needle. I enjoy seeking out fresh stories, especially ones that spotlight undiscovered characters and ask important questions.

I am experienced in evaluating scripts and films, and enjoy contributing to story and character development at various stages of production. I can bring to the table my own lived experiences, drawing on my backgrounds of disability, South Asian/diasporic and third culture identities, and life in the margins of the margins.

  • With a passion for amplifying the diversity of experiences in the public sphere, I enjoy seeking out complex characters, marginalised identities and narratives that live in the intersections of gender, race, ability, and stories that explore what it means to be human.

I have experience working with both fiction and documentary. I am open to programming projects and opportunities that actively seek to showcase diverse perspectives and voices, and would relish the chance to share my own experiences.

  • I enjoy participating in talks, presentations and panel discussions, on a variety of topics, including disability, diversity and representation in film; the lived experience of disability; and inclusive activism and campaigning.

I am also experienced in public relations and communications, and have spoken on Parliamentary record and been interviewed on national television, radio and press.
